Before & After
I finished my flower brooch.
Here are some before and after felting photos.

This was a cute pattern Knitwhits that my friend Liro sent me (thanks again Liro!) and really easy, too.
You only need to know the following: knit, purl, ssk, slip 1, make 1, and k2tog.
I didn’t check my gauge and just used the US 7 needles suggested in the kit.
I’m not sure if this is the reason my flower came out so huge in the end.
It looks a little clownish, so I probably won’t wear it.
Which is sad, since this season brooches are huge in France.
Are they so Fall 2004 back in the States?
It might also be because I used my front-loading washer to felt and I’ve read that those don’t work as well as top-loading washers.
My second (and probably last) attempt at felting in France.
If I were to try this pattern again I would use much smaller needles.

your flower looks great — if it’s too big to wear as a brooch (which is a word that always looks like it’s spelled wrong) maybe you can pin it to a tote bag or something. it’s too pretty not to show off.
and your last post reminded me about the situation in france. here it sounds like the country is burning. the freedom fry americans are of course all excited but they suck. my brother who lives in paris says that that the rioting has stayed pretty localized. i haven’t spoken to my parents since the rioting’s started but considering that where they live there’s no one under the age of 55 i imagine it’s pretty quiet.

The flower is beautiful! We’ve been watching the updates of the situations on the internet everyday. My husband has been worrying about his mother in Auxerre … but it seems nothing really big happened there.
I wish the same in your city … take care and be safe.

I don’t see how a top vs front loader would felt wool differently! If you find the flower too big to wear, wash it again. And again, if necessary. I washed my Sophie bag about five times until I liked the fabric’s density. It shrunk some more every time. And this even though I felted in the US.
