Le Popcorn
February 10th, 2006
I can’t say that I’m a huge popcorn fan.
However, I was very sad when, on my first trip to a Dijon movie theatre, I realised that there was no concession stand selling buckets of freshly-popped buttered popcorn.
There’s just something about sharing a big, greasy tub of popcorn in the dark.
One time last year, overcome by nostalgia, I did buy some microwave popcorn when I spotted it on the imported products aisle in the supermarket.
I was a little surprised to see it since the French don’t seem to be big fans of products made from corn. I’ve often read corn is considered feed for pigs.
It was okay for sitting in front of the tv, but not exactly very fresh tasting.
Well, popcorn lovers in France, I have some news to spread.
While I was skimming through last Sunday’s newspaper, I came across an article about a new company right here in the Burgundy area.
It’s called Bresse Pop and as of this year it’s the only company in France to make microwavable popcorn.
The company was started by five road racing buddies and you can read all about it (in French) here. It’s available in local supermarkets and comes in natural, sweet, and salted varieties.
I can only hope that local movie theatres will invest in some microwave ovens and add this product to their vending machines.
